My Philosophy

As a quick-fix, fast-paced, and money-centric society, many of us struggle with over-consumption —both in terms of the large quantity and the lesser quality of the things we buy. We also often struggle to pay attention to our purchases’ impact on people and the planet (from production through transport to usage and disposal) and to distinguish between genuine wants and needs.

At the same time, we simultaneously tend to under-care for and under-nourish ourselves, our relationships, and our homes. The invitation is to use home organizing to find a values-driven path through the confusion—lifelong and sustainable ways of slowing down, meeting our basic needs, coping with life’s stressors, and savoring its joys. It’s not about perfection or judgment, but rather progress and self-compassion and doing our best when we know better, which is an awareness and possibility available to us with each new moment.

Our homes and how we tend to them can help: home organizing rituals can enable us all to live more in balance with ourselves and others, including the natural environment, and tending to our living spaces and household systems can be a recognition of our interconnectedness, a routine of care, and a practice of love.
